  Notes	According to the Bartn-Steadman genealogy, p. 133 ff: "It is traditional that James lived in Dumfries (County Dumfries), Scotland, and that he was married before coming to America... Following his arrival in America at the port of NewYork, James eventually migrated to Northumberland County, Pennsylvania. It is said that he settled in the county in 1768... His wife Margaret is said to have been a Miss Harris... William, the first known son of his parents, perhaps was born in North Ireland, the present State of New York, or the present State of Pennsylvania."
